At NILC, we provide comprehensive PRINCE2® training to help individuals and teams manage projects effectively, from structured initiation through to successful delivery.
What Is PRINCE2®?
PRINCE2® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a flexible, scalable project management methodology used across industries worldwide. As a best practice framework, it offers a clearly defined structure built around seven principles, seven themes, and seven processes.
Designed for project managers, delivery teams, and decision-makers, PRINCE2® supports communication, accountability, and control at every stage of a project. Its flexibility allows it to be applied in public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
The 7 PRINCE2® Principles
PRINCE2® is built on seven core principles that define the underlying philosophy of the method:
- Continued business justification
- Learn from experience
- Defined roles and responsibilities
- Manage by stages
- Manage by exception
- Focus on products
- Tailor to suit the project environment
The 7 PRINCE2® Themes
Themes guide how the principles should be applied throughout the lifecycle of a project:
- Business Case – Ensuring the project delivers value.
- Organisation – Defining project roles and responsibilities.
- Quality – Specifying what the project must deliver.
- Plans – Detailing how objectives will be met.
- Risk – Identifying, assessing, and managing uncertainty.
- Change – Managing scope and responding to issues.
- Progress – Monitoring and evaluating project performance.
The 7 PRINCE2® Processes
Processes provide a step-by-step guide to managing a project from start to finish:
- Starting up a project
- Initiating a project
- Directing a project
- Controlling a stage
- Managing product delivery
- Managing stage boundaries
- Closing a project
PRINCE2® Qualifications
There are two core PRINCE2® certifications: Foundation and Practitioner. A third option, PRINCE2® Agile, is ideal for professionals who want to combine the responsiveness of Agile with the structure of PRINCE2®. Unlike traditional PRINCE2® courses, PRINCE2® Agile focuses on iterative delivery, collaboration, and adapting to change while maintaining project governance. Exam Format:
- 60-minute closed-book exam
- 60 multiple-choice questions
- Pass mark: 55% (33 correct answers)
PRINCE2® Practitioner
The PRINCE2® Practitioner course builds on the Foundation and focuses on applying the methodology in real-world scenarios. It’s aimed at project managers and leaders seeking hands-on implementation skills.
Exam Format:
- Objective testing format
- 2.5 hours duration
- 68 questions
- Pass mark: 55% (38 correct answers)

In 2025, the PRINCE2® Practitioner exam puts greater emphasis on practical application. Candidates must assess project situations, propose appropriate actions using PRINCE2® principles, and justify decisions in realistic project settings. This includes evaluating risk strategies, adapting plans, and tailoring the method to suit specific environments.
Why Choose PRINCE2®?
- Globally recognised and respected by employers
- Provides a structured and flexible approach
- Adaptable to all industries and project types
